Greeting: (Dear Mr. Ms. Mrs., etc.)

Attention Paragraph: This is where you seize the attention of the reader. Tell the reader in one, short, bold sentence that you want an interview. Peak their interest by telling them how you got their name or letting them know you will be demonstrating your qualifications in the remainder of the letter.

Body Paragraphs: In the body of the letter, you "get down to business." Take a couple of paragraphs to explain why you want to work for the company and show your interest in the career. Include another paragraph to "strut your stuff." Highlight two or three specifc strengths from your resume. For example:

  • A real team player
  • Excellent IT skills
  • Eager to be an asset to your team

Concluding Paragraph: Wrap it up. Let them know you will followup with a phone call to see if you can schedule an appointment. Also don't forget to thank them for their time.
